Synchronizing references
This topic refers to all of the application links described in the this chapter except the Lotus Notes link.
The references that are created by Meridian to manage the external references of a document can be synchronized from the document. This is valuable to keep the Meridian references synchronized when external references are added or deleted in the document's native application. It is also necessary when external references are added to the vault by methods that bypass the native application. Reference detection and management is primarily performed by the Meridian application link from within the native application. It is also performed by the Meridian import tools. But if the link is not loaded in the native application or documents with references are imported to the vault without using the Meridian import tools, the external references are not detected and Meridian references are not automatically created. In that case, synchronization must be performed manually.
Meridian references are created and synchronized in the following ways:
- Import new documents with the Document Import Tool and the Resolve references option enabled as described in About the Document Import Tool.
- Import new documents with Assembly Import tool described in Importing assemblies.
- Open or save documents in the vault from within an application that has a Meridian application link loaded. This is also supported by Remote mode as described in Understanding Offline mode and Remote mode and in Working with application links remotely.
- By the Synchronize References from File command in PowerUser as described in the following task.
It is important to recognize that Meridian references are not synchronized in the following ways:
- Importing new documents with drag-and-drop.
- Uploading documents with PowerWeb as described in Uploading documents.
To manually synchronize Meridian references of a document:
- On the Document menu in PowerUser, select Synchronize References From File.
- On the Update menu in PowerWeb, click Synchronize References from File.
Or
- Depending on the application, on the Accruent menu or in the Accruent page of the ribbon or in the Accruent toolbar in the native application, click Synchronize References.
With some versions of AutoCAD, synchronizing references with some AutoCAD files (sheet set files, for example) from within PowerUser while the file is open in AutoCAD can produce an error. First close the file in AutoCAD or synchronize the file from within AutoCAD instead.
